Ramsey Straw Bear
As well as visiting pubs to carry out our civic duty in maintaining real ale standards, 2009 shows our genuine focus on reviving our dance form in the area it comes from and taking it to the best national festivals. At Ramsey on Plough Monday we danced alongside 230 of the pupils being taught by two of our members, who work for Norfolk Our World Festivals, as part of the Cambridgeshire Roots Project. This was probably the largest number of people who have performed a molly dance together, ever. We are also very proud of the Straw Bear we constructed, under the expert guidance of Hayley Bell, and danced in extravagently by Pete Brown. Our Mark Jones Day of Dance in Ely on 24th January is established as the largest and best gathering of molly sides in the country. In the summer we are really looking forward to strutting our stuff in Sidmouth and Toweresey festivals, the fourth time we’ve visited these marvellous events.
